How to Open a Certificate File

A certificate can be a document file (PDF, JPG, PNG) or a digital certificate (like .cer, .crt, .pfx). Follow the method based on the file type.


1. Open Certificate as a Document (Most Common)

PDF Certificate

  • Double-click the file

  • It opens with Adobe Acrobat Reader or any PDF viewer

Image Certificate (JPG / PNG)

  • Double-click the file

  • It opens with Photos, Gallery, or any image viewer


2. Open Certificate on Mobile Phone

Android

  • PDF → Open with Google PDF Viewer

  • Image → Open with Gallery

iPhone

  • PDF → Open with Files or Books

  • Image → Open with Photos


3. Open Digital Certificate File

.cer / .crt File (Windows)

  1. Double-click the certificate file.

  2. Certificate details will open automatically.

  3. Click Install Certificate if needed.

.pfx / .p12 File

  1. Double-click the file.

  2. Enter the password.

  3. Follow the installation steps.


4. If Certificate Is Not Opening

Try these solutions:

  • Install Adobe Acrobat Reader

  • Rename file extension correctly (.pdf, .jpg)

  • Re-download the certificate

  • Check if the file is corrupted


5. Open Certificate Online

You can upload the certificate to:

  • Google Drive

  • Adobe Online Viewer

Then open it directly in the browser.
